The only material that poses a problem is metal—such as metal walls, numerous metal shelves, the walls of refrigerators, or reinforced concrete walls with extensive metal mesh. Metal constructions create a Faraday cage effect that weakens or even blocks the signal. This issue can be resolved by installing additional devices in the area—one on each side of the metal obstruction.

For a larger area beyond the device’s range, should you simply add another device to cover the entire space?

Yes, if the area is larger than the device’s working range, you should install additional devices. For larger areas, it is advisable to use multiple devices with shorter ranges rather than one device with a larger range. The GUARDIAN Damp Removal signals weaken as they pass through multiple walls, so installing more devices is recommended. Using multiple devices creates a synergistic network of signals.

Is there a cost-benefit analysis?

There are two ways to address damp in buildings: construction work, which involves drilling and cutting the walls, and remediation using a GUARDIAN Damp Removal device. The cost of construction work is considerably higher, it is very intrusive to the building’s structure, and it is not a permanent solution. Authorities concerned with the protection of cultural heritage and the preservation of historic buildings do not recommend these methods, and in some cases, they are even prohibited.

Does it have any influence on human health?

No, the GUARDIAN Damp Removal device consumes less than 1W of power. Such a low-powered device cannot have any impact on people, animals, or plants. The device has been tested by a notified body of the EC, which confirmed this. However, rising damp, aside from its unpleasant smell, attracts bacteria and fungi to the space and increases atmospheric humidity. Long-term exposure to such conditions can weaken the immune system and lead to allergic reactions, asthma, and other health issues. Children and older individuals are particularly at risk.

Why does it need a grounded socket?

The GUARDIAN Damp Removal addresses the cause of damp rising from the soil into the walls. This is due to the difference in electrical potential between the water particles and the wall. By connecting the grounding wire, the device has a ground potential and wirelessly emits a signal into the walls. Grounding using a grounding strip or probe (rod) has been a standard practice in the electrical industry for over 30 years.

Where does the device collect water? It is not a traditional dehumidifier for extracting water from the air. Instead, the GUARDIAN Damp Removal prevents water from rising from the soil into the walls, and any existing water in the walls will begin to return to the soil in the same way it originally rose—through the microcapillary pores of the construction materials.

How much electricity does it consume?

The power of this device is less than 1W. For comparison, the lowest-power LED bulb is 3W, so the GUARDIAN Damp Removal uses about one-third of that power and consumes approximately 1-2€ ($1-2) per year.

What is the optimal position for installing the device?

The working principle of the GUARDIAN Damp Removal can be compared to the functionality of a Wi-Fi router. Just as a router provides wireless internet within its range, the GUARDIAN works within its radius to eliminate the difference in potential between the walls and the water particles from the soil, thereby stopping the advance of rising damp. The signal will pass through all construction materials within its range, except for metal walls, due to the formation of a Faraday cage.

The best practice is to install the device in the center of the area. It can be placed on a wooden or plastic table or shelf (but not metal), or mounted on the wall using the two provided dowels and screws from the box. Larger facilities may require additional devices or a model with stronger signals. For buildings with internal reinforced concrete walls, more devices may be needed to bypass the walls—one device to cover the area before the wall and another to cover the area after the wall.

What are the alternatives to the GUARDIAN Damp Removal device?

There are two possible solutions for addressing rising damp: using an electronic device to remove the cause of damp rising into the walls, or employing various construction methods. All known construction methods have an aggressive impact on the structural integrity of the building.

Injection – This method is usually applied only to exterior walls. Holes are drilled every 12 cm, into which a mixture is injected to prevent rising damp. Moisture above this level remains in the wall. The injected mixture is fragile and may break due to natural ground movement, potentially allowing the moisture to start rising again.

Vertical Sealing – This involves installing vertical waterproof barriers to prevent capillary rising damp on the surface of the wall. However, the moisture remains trapped in the wall and may find alternative ways to escape.

Cutting – This is an extremely aggressive method that can be dangerous to the structural integrity of a building. It involves making cuts in the construction elements and inserting strips of waterproof material. The ends of these materials are left exposed because if covered by plaster or other materials, bridging would occur, allowing moisture to bypass the barrier.

Drainage – A trench is dug around the building, and a drainage channel is installed adjacent to the foundations. This method can reduce capillary rising damp by lowering the source of humidity, but it cannot fully drain or remedy the rising damp.

The cost of construction work is considerably higher than the cost of remediation and protection using the GUARDIAN Damp Removal device.

Warranty

What is the length of the warranty period?

The warranty period is 10 years, which is quite long for electronic devices. If the green signal LED stops blinking and the red LED is turned on, it indicates that the device is not functioning properly. During the warranty period, we will replace the device with a new one. While it is possible that the device is still functioning properly but the LED lamp has failed, you will only know for sure if damp damage reappears on the walls.

What is the lifespan of the product?

The warranty is for 10 years, but the device will continue to function beyond that period.
